Organizational History

The Boston Chapter of the American Red Cross was first organized in Tremont Temple in May of 1905 as the Massachusetts branch of the American Red Cross in Washington. “To furnish volunteer aid to the sick and wounded of armies in time of war” is the first chapter obligation. During wartime, as well as in times of peace, the American Red Cross has provided hospital and ambulance service to disabled veterans and their families.
