Historical Abstract | Elin Frances Sondergard, more commonly known as “Fran,” was born in Lynn, Massachusetts in 1908. She enrolled in Simmons College in 1925 and participated in the Simmons News, was a member of the field hockey team, and sat on the Academy executive board. She was voted “greatest professional promise” among her peers during her senior year; the Microcosm noted that her classmates “would not be surprised to see her as a socialist reformer some day.” Sondergard continued work at Simmons as an instructor in Secretarial Studies in the years following her graduation and then became an accountant. She married Alonzo Herbert Huntoon in 1953 and the two resided in Stoneham, MA until her death in 2000. |

Elin Frances Sondergard (1908-2000), more commonly known as “Fran,” was born in Lynn, Massachusetts to Danish immigrants Niels A. Sondergard and Clara Gronbech. She enrolled in Simmons College in 1925 and participated in the Simmons News, was a member of the field hockey team, and sat on the Academy Executive Board.
