After graduating in 1917, Black returned to her hometown of Stamford, Connecticut, where she took a job as an assistant at the Ferguson Library. She later worked at a branch of the New York Public Library, resigning shortly before her marriage to the Reverend Glenn B. Coykendall in 1922. </text>
