Simmons Black Oral History Project seeks to document the lives and experiences of Black Simmons alumnae/i, shedding light on issues of race and identity on and off campus that can encourage us to think about similar themes and issues faced by current Black students. The project is directed by Professor Tatiana Cruz.
This digital exhibit showcases some of the interviews conducted as part of the project. It includes brief audio clips with the corresponding transcripts, shared with the consent of the narrators. We are in the process of acquiring the full interviews for the Simmons University Archives.
The interviews were conducted by Simmons University students in 2022 and 2023. This exhibit also features student projects inspired by the themes and topics covered in the interviews. The site will continue to grow as students conduct interviews with more Black alumnae/i.
