Simmons Black Oral History Project

The Simmons Black Oral History Project (SBOHP) was founded in 2022 by Dr. Tatiana Cruz and seeks to document the lives and experiences of Black Simmons alumnae/i. To date, Simmons students involved in the SBOHP have collected 23 oral histories from Black alumnae/i from the 1960s - 1980s.

This digital exhibit showcases some of the interviews conducted as part of the project. It includes brief audio clips with the corresponding transcripts, shared with the consent of the narrators. We are in the process of acquiring the full interviews for the Simmons University Archives.

The interviews were conducted by Simmons University students in several phases. This exhibit also features student projects inspired by the themes and topics covered in the interviews. The site will continue to grow as students conduct interviews with more Black alumnae/i.
