Competitive Swimming
Competitive swimming and diving does continue today, however, synchronized swimming was discontinued. During 2008 and 2009, the team won the College Swimming Coaches Assciation of America All-American Team Award.
Synchronized Swimming
The Synchronized Swimming Club started in the 1960s and welcomed all students to participate. They organized annual shows, the one in 1962 being based on The Nutcracker.
Horseback Riding
Horseback riding was first offered as a class in 1948, although riding competitions had been a part of Field Day decades prior. The Riding Club was created and they arranged events such as riding practice, lectures, and films on horse maintenance and riding theory.
Dancing
In 1948, the Modern Dance Club was created and their first performance was called the Juggler of Notre Dame at the Instructor's Club Party. Additionally, they participated in dance concerts with other college dance groups. In 1950, they were the first college dance cllub to appear on TV, performing the Hot Canary and the Rondo on the Dick Tucker Show. Dance continues nowadays in the form of the Simmons University Dance Company and offers students the opportunity to participate in a variety of dance styles including traditional, experimental, and alternative dancing.
